Jonquil Graham's home New Zealand
Welcome. My name is Jonquil Graham, and this is my website. I live in Golden Bay, New Zealand in an historic house on 11 acres with a magnificent magnolia tree. Apart from growing kiwifruit, raising a large family and writing numerous articles, I have two published books which are historical and relevant today.

The latest, Once I was a Teenager , is a rollicking yarn of how it felt to be a teen growing up in Australia during the 50s and 60s. It’s an entertaining glimpse into society’s attitudes, the fashions, music, crazy dances, surfing, pop stars, surfing, and more. Long-haired sons said to their parents “You just don’t dig our generation. Rules are meant to be broken”. Mothers worried about their daughters being “left on the shelf”. This book will make you laugh.

How Many Planes to get me? will make you laugh and cry. I was given a child on my honeymoon, before fostering and adopting up to 30 children. The title was inspired by the Romanian “triplets” and Russian twins asking how many planes it took to come to NZ — their favourite bedtime tale. It is the story of how inter-country adoption was formed in New Zealand and the ups and downs of raising so many children of different cultures.
